The Workplace Safety and Insurance Board (WSIB) has launched a rate review process with the goal of moving towards an NAICS (North American Industrial Classification System).

This issue is a big deal for builders. Here’s why: this will potentially influence how you pay your rates over the next 10-20 years.

Proposed WSIB goals include the creation of a system which allows for easier administration for all parties and more predictable premiums for employers. An overview of the Proposed Preliminary Rate Framework can be found here.

Here is a short list of items home builders need to know:

- The formal process has just commenced with the release of five technical papers, which can all be found on the WSIB Rate Review website.

- RESCON has attended and will continue to attend stakeholder meetings with the WSIB, participate in technical sessions and provide updates.

- Individual employers are permitted and encouraged to provide feedback on the new proposed system and can do so by contacting the WSIB directly or by coordinating with RESCON.
