While it may seem a little early to be hearing Jingle Bells as you shop, 'tis the season for two of our favourite subjects - housing affordability and the merits of infrastructure investment.
Our team at RESCON and at our affiliate, the Residential and Civil Construction Alliance of Ontario (RCCAO), are organizing two insightful panel discussions that are coming up.
The first one is set for Tuesday at 8 a.m. called "Investing in Ontario's Public Infrastructure," hosted by RCCAO and the Ontario Construction Secretariat.
This event will be held at the Hart House Debates Room at U of T (7 Hart House Circle), starting at 8 a.m. with comments from Transportation Minister Steven Del Duca at 9 a.m. followed by a panel discussion with some of the keenest minds around infrastructure investment in Ontario:
- Janet De Silva, president and CEO, Toronto Region Board of Trade (Moderator)
- Barrie Mayor Jeff Lehman
- John McKendrick, executive vice-president, project delivery, Infrastructure Ontario
- Mark Romoff, president and CEO, the Canadian Council for Public-Private Partnerships
- Paul Smetanin, president and CEO, Canadian Centre for Economic Analysis (CANCEA)

As for residential construction, RESCON is tackling the topic of housing affordability with its Wednesday, Dec. 9 panel discussion stemming from the upcoming report "The Escalating Challenge of Home Ownership: Causes, Costs & Risks."
Housing industry leaders, government officials and academics will gather to discuss ground-breaking research report by CANCEA to examine the supply and demand factors that are making it harder for families to obtain their shelter needs.
The event will kick off at 8 a.m. at George Vari Engineering and Computing Center (Third Floor) at Ryerson University (245 Church St.).
