New year, new achievements -- RESCON recently spearheaded the successful launch of the Job Talks Construction video series. In these profiles, dozens of skilled trades workers, including bulldozer operator Larissa (shown below), discuss their passion for their work in 1.5- to four-minute clips. (See them at jobtalksconstruction.ca.)
Not only was RESCON mentioned in a Maclean's article about skilled trades jobs the week of the launch, but the event's media coverage included stories from ReNew Canada (their website's top story for several days) and Daily Commercial News. In addition, Radio-Canada, the French-language CBC, ran stories on the event for several broadcasts throughout the day, while the Toronto Sun and Ottawa Sun also gave mention to the video series this week. We'll share more news coverage in upcoming newsletters as it rolls out.
Please feel free to share the video series with your friends and family -- we need young people to know that these jobs are not only well paid, but personally fulfilling. And we have to help our educators and guidance counsellors understand the importance of this career path choice for people at an earlier age.
Lastly, thank you to our partners in the video series launch: the Residential and Civil Construction Alliance of Ontario; the Ontario Skilled Trades Alliance; the Heavy Construction Association of Toronto; the Toronto Area Road Builders Association; the Ontario Sewer and Watermain Construction Association; the Ontario Residential Council of Construction Associations; and the Ontario Construction Careers Alliance.
Below, check out the following: I write about the GTA's broken rental market in the Toronto Sun; RCCAO's Andy Manahan joins TVO's Steve Paikin for a lively discussion on infrastructure; and we present five recent letters and submissions to the Ontario government.
Thanks for reading!
